After over a decade of dedicated service, and the manufacturer ceasing to update the drivers as of 2011, my scanner has given up the ghost. It was a Canon CanoScan 4200F (yup, old!). While I have had no issue with Canon products, I've decided to look beyond the brand and see what else is out there that will suit my traditional media projects. I also have a limited budget (under $250 US), so buying high-end image scanners is out of the question.
I'm currently hunting for a new scanner for the purposes of scanning:
1. Sketches and Drawings
2. Line Art (inked and/or penciled)
3. Art works done in paint (watercolour, acrylic, gouache), ink, and/or coloured pencil.
Two models I've been looking at are:
Digitte, my workhorse of a PC, runs on a Win 7 Professional 64-bit OS. I mention this because I saw some chatter about some scanner manufacturers not keeping with the times and making their products 64-bit compatible (which sounds like a silly move, in my opinion). I'm looking for something that will last me over a decade, if not longer, and scans artwork beautifully with minor adjustments required.
If you are a traditional media artist (or know someone who is) and you/they have used these scanners, please leave a message and tell me which I should (not) purchase and why.
